![]() But, in addition to that, Chromium does not seem to have any switch to open a url in a tab anyway there is only a switch to open in new window (and this is despite the fact that Chromium has literally hundreds of command line switches for the most obscure and preposterous functions). The one that I use the most (Brave Browser) has, for some reason, stripped out most of the command line switch options that chrome-based browsers usually inherit from the Chromium source. Unfortunately I haven't (yet) been able to find a usable solution for chrome-based browsers. I tried it out and it works really well I get instant tab-load with no droplist or other ugliness. There is a specific open in 'new tab' command (as opposed to opening a new window). This works consistently across all Mozilla-type browsers (Aurora, Quantum, Waterfox, Basilisk etc.) whether they're installed or portable. ![]() I use various different portable browser installs, so simply issuing a run command is not going to give the desired result of opening a tab in whatever the currently active browser is.īut then I remembered command line switches!įirefox-based browsers are good in this regard, and I've often used switches to create Start Menu shortcuts to open browsers using different specified profile folders for different use cases. ![]() However, this method is kind of basic because it assumes just one installed browser that has been set as the system-wide default handler for URLs. Actually, this is a good idea because the url is specified outside of the address bar, so there will be no ugly droplist flashing and no waiting for the text to populate into the text entry box (because the browser will already know what page it should be opening).
